Analytical notes published by SEC Biomass

Below you find a series of the planned publications on the major issues of bioenergy development in Ukraine.

  • Twelfth Position Paper of UABio "Prospects for the development of bioenergy as an instrument for natural gas replacement in Ukraine" (en)
UABio’s Position Paper N 12 covers issues related to the state of the art, support mechanisms and prospects for bioenergy development in Ukraine. The document reflects potentialities of bioenergy as an effective instrument for the replacement of natural gas for heat production in Ukraine. Especial attention is paid to the relevant legislative issues. The Paper includes forecast for increase in the installed capacity of bioenergy equipment in different sectors (population, industry, housing-communal and budget-financed sectors) by 2020 and also assessment of the respective demand of biofuels by type.
  • Eleventh Position Paper of UABio "Prospects of biomethane production and use in Ukraine" (en)
The prospects for the development of biomethane (BM) production are discussed in the 11th position paper of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine. It is a new direction for Ukrainian renewable energy. The opportunity, the importance of expediency as well as recommendations for the development of production and use of biomethane in Ukraine are shown.
  • Tenth Position Paper of UABio "Prospects for the growing and use of energy crops in Ukraine" (en)
Position Paper N 10 covers the issues of growing and using energy cropsand also prospects for the development of this bioenergy sector in Ukraine. The document contains analysis of energy crops sphere in the European Union including existing support mechanisms. The authors have considered the features of growing several energy crops and fuel properties of the crops. Some mechanisms to encourage the energy crops sector development in Ukraine are suggested.
  • Ninth position paper of UABio "State of the art and prospects for bioenergy development in Ukraine(en)
Position Paper No. 9 prepared by the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (UABio) covers state of the art, existing barriers and prospects for bioenergy development in Ukraine. To a great extent, Position Paper No. 9 uses and compiles results of Position Papers 1-8, and suggests an integral conception of the sector development on their basis.
  • Eighth position paper of UABio "Energy and environmental analysis of bioenergy technologies" (en)
Position Paper No. 8 covers the issue of energy efficiency of different bioenergy technologies and also includes assessment of GHG balance when replacing fossil fuels with biomass.
  • Seventh position paper of UABio "Prospects for the use of agricultural residues for energy production in Ukraine" (en)
Position Paper No. 7 covers an issue of possibility of using plant residues of agriculture for energy production in Ukraine. Such points as generation of cereal straw, residues of grain corn (maize) production and sunflower production as well as existing areas of the residues utilization and preconditions for their use for energy production are analyzed in the Paper.
  • Sixth position paper "Prospects for heat production from biomass in Ukraine" (en)
UABio’s Position Paper No. 6 considers state of the art and prospects for the development of heat production from biomass in the EU countries and the world. We have analyzed prerequisites and barriers existing in Ukraine for the development of this sector and suggested conception for introduction of bioenergy equipment for heat production from biomass in Ukraine until 2030.
  • Fifth position paper "Prospects for the electricity generation from biomass in Ukraine" (en)
In the Position Paper No. 5, the current state and prospects of the sector of electricity generation from biomass in the world, the EU countries and Ukraine are considered. The potential of the sector of electricity generation from biomass in Ukraine is analyzed, the main barriers are considered and a concept of bioenergy equipment application for electricity generation for the period till 2030 is offered.
  • Fourth position paper "The prospects of biogas production and use in Ukraine" (en)
In UABio’s Position Paper No. 4, the main obstacles hindering the development of biogas technologies in the country and worldwide are identified and analyzed. Ukraine’s biogas production potential is exhibited. There are suggested some possible ways to overcome the existing barriers.
  • Third position paper "Barriers to the development of bioenergy in Ukraine" (en)
In UABio’s Position Paper No. 3, the main obstacles hindering the development of bioenergy in the country are identified and analyzed. We have considered the basic mechanisms of stimulation of bioenergy in the EU, analyzed whether the mechanisms are available in Ukraine and suggested some possible ways to overcome the existing barriers.
  • Second position paper "Analysis of the Law of Ukraine «On amendments to the Law of Ukraine «On Electricity» N5485-VI of 20.11.2012" (en)
The Position paper No. 2 is dedicated to the analysis of the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Electricity” concerning stimulation of power generation from alternative energy sources” (№ 5485-VI of 20.11.2012). Mentioned law, from our point of view, creates a number of significant barriers to bioenergy and other renewable energy sources (RES) development in our country.
  • First analytical paper "Position of bioenergy in the draft updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2030" (en)
The first Position Paper deals with the position of bioenergy in the draft updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2030.
